All videos will be posted on the “What’s So Cool” website WhatsSoCool.org and will be open to the public for voting on March 13-15, 2024 for the Viewers Choice Award. The contest was created to generate excitement that draws students toward considering manufacturing career paths to create a 21st century workforce.

The survey data, capturing the revenue, cost savings, regional investment, and job impacts reported by 575 IRC clients, was gathered by an independent market research firm, and confirmed by the U.S. Department of Commerce. To the Commonwealth, these impacts translate to incremental tax revenues. The survey, conducted throughout 2023, underscores the major influence of the statewide IRC Network.

LVEDC reports that crossing the $50 billion threshold reflects the region’s impressive economic renaissance. The strength and diversification of the economy attract new business investments and create job opportunities, making the Lehigh Valley more prosperous. Lehigh Valley ranks as a Top 15 market for GDP in its class and stands as the 68th largest regional economy in the U.S.

This article by Cris Collingwood recently appeared in the online edition of Lehigh Valley Business.  The Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC) in Allentown is hosting its 8th annual “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” (WSCM) contest in Berks and Schuylkill counties This Berks/Schuylkill contest will partner 7th and 8th grade student teams with 28 manufacturers 

“As we start our second decade of building awareness about careers in the manufacturing sector we have increased our dynamic partnerships between business and education.” said Karen Buck, Director, Workforce Initiatives at MRC.

The visit allowed manufacturers to hear about Toyota’s successes and challenges and ask questions. This experience emphasized the importance of aligning systems with desired behaviors and cultures for employee development. It also highlighted the significance of continuous practice to retain employees and build a successful lean culture.

The decision to bestow this award upon Kitchen Magic was influenced by their steadfast commitment to the development of their people, an unwavering pursuit of operational excellence, and a dedication to providing outstanding customer service. Their openness to embracing new technologies further underscores their forward-thinking approach, positioning them as industry trailblazers.

Companies like B. Braun and OraSure Technologies introduced this apprenticeship program at the Lehigh Valley Manufacturing Forum, aiming to create apprenticeship programs that equip workers with essential skills. iTEC’s goal is to simplify career pathways, fostering a pipeline of diverse talent.

The CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 created Tech Hubs to boost innovation in essential technologies for economic and national security. Congresswoman Susan Wild, who proposed the act, envisioned the Lehigh Valley’s inclusion as a Tech Hub. The application was submitted by the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp.
