Will There Be a Recession in 2025? An Expert Weighs In at the Lehigh Valley Manufacturing Forum
At the October 3, 2024, Lehigh Valley Manufacturing Forum, Alex Hino, an investment strategist at Wilmington Trust, shared insights on the U.S. economy’s trajectory. He predicted a “soft landing” for 2025, with a slowdown in growth but no recession. Hino noted that inflation has decreased to around 2.5% from its peak of 9%, and further interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve are likely in a measured manner. However, Hino expressed concerns over rising credit debt and a slight increase in unemployment, which now sits at 4.2% nationally. Locally, the Lehigh Valley’s unemployment rate is at 3.6%, with job openings outpacing the number of unemployed workers. Despite some caution in hiring, wages in the region have increased by 6% over the past year. Read more about the event and economic forecast in The Morning Call article
